Desert Foothills

May 19 - Observation day 1: I discovered this tiny hummingbird nest on a Palo Verde tree branch overlooking the sidewalk where I walk daily. The nest was unusual in its texture, woven with fleecy white puffs, probably creosote seedpods.

The first day I was not sure what type of hummingbird she was, with the dark patch marking her throat. But the throat marking, combined with the mature length beak, suggested that this was an adult hummingbird incubating her nest.
