A Great Blue Heron on the rocks at Coon Bluff.
It was ready for its close-up!
August seems to be prime dragonfly season -- this beauty is a male Widow Skimmer.
A pair of female wild horses at Granite Reef -- the chestnut on the right looked like she might be pregnant.
Several times, this female firmly rebuffed the stallion's advances.
A second stallion stood quietly by while the first wandered out of sight.
Another dragonfly species, which I haven't been able to identify.
And finally, a river otter (I think) bringing home wild salad greens for lunch.
Even when birds and horses are relatively scarce, the river trails are full of life, and a joy to visit.
