Female Eastern Towhee (I think) at Woodland Park, Herndon VA, 3/24/12.
This was taken just before the rain started this morning -- not a speck of sunshine to be had to help identify it or do justice to its colors.
Once upon a time I would have called this a Rufous-sided Towhee, but apparently that species has since been subdivided (by the official big kahuna bird-nerds) into Eastern vs. Spotted towhees.
Whatever it was, it was singing a beautiful song.
