Daily Bird(s): January 30

This Meadowlark is today's "official" daily bird -- Gilbert Water Ranch, 1/30/12. This is an adult, likely male, but I can't tell whether the species is Eastern or Western. (I'll update the ID if I can get opinions from local bird experts.)

ID update = Western Meadowlark.

I only first saw a Meadowlark from a distance last week, so I was very happy to get a good portrait today.

And the bonus bird today, because I love how it complements yesterday's egret...

Great Blue Heron ready for its closeup, Gilbert Water Ranch, 1/30/12. It was so focused on the pond that I don't think it even noticed me.
