Sixteen years was far too long to be away from the Chicago Botanic Garden. But we finally squeezed in a visit yesterday morning -- a side trip to our whirlwind weekend in Evanston, where we lived long ago in our pre-kids days. The weather was perfect, the garden was more spectacular than ever, and I even spotted a few favorite birds. You can see my short CBG Flickr slideshow here, or click through the photo set yourself here.
Now I remember why I used to visit the garden often when we lived in Chicagoland. What an amazing and beautiful pIace.
One of my favorite places! And Evanston, as well -- I've spent a lot of time there. We lived in Wilmette, right next door. Hope you've had a wonderful trip!

Thanks, we had only 48 hours there, but we packed a lot into it -- including the American Craft Exposition show for Evanston Hospital Auxiliary -- that I've wanted to go to for years. That was one AMAZING show! Maybe I'll post about it, didn't take any photos though. So much inspiration.
Did I know you once lived in Wilmette? Hmm, my aging brain didn't remember that. We were in Evanston pre-kids, and then Vernon Hills until we moved to VA.

I have not been to ACE, but have been trying to get in for years . . . to exhibit, not to see it. Although seeing it would be great. The two artists whose work is most similar to mine are both institutions there, so I stand little chance. Even though the head of the committee that runs the thing personally begged me to apply (she forgot to alert the jury, obviously) Anyway, $200 into application fees now, I decided this year to skip even trying. Glad you got to go! Please do post!
We lived in Wilmette, then Wheeling (not too far from Vernon Hills) then Naperville. And I did not remember that you had spent time in Chicagoland either...
