A fresh batch of Kaffe Fassett fabrics has arrived at my doorstep. I ordered these in hopes of getting reacquainted with my sewing machine as our weather warms up and afternoons are best spent on indoor projects.
Above is my assortment (so far) of Kaffe's shot cottons. These read as solids, but the lengthwise and crosswise fiber colors are actually different, giving a variable color quality to the fabric, depending on the viewing angle. The background fabric is called Emerald Kite Tails, and it's even prettier in person than it looks online.
I also got some of Kaffe's newest woven stripes, after kicking myself for missing out on his first batch years ago. I don't have them organized for a photo op yet, but they are gorgeous!
And I'm still having fun with my iPhone Hipstamatic camera app...
Happy weekend!
WHAT? Three new posts? Where have I been?
1) This makes me officially the last person in North America with a six year old phone that not only flips open but can't even take pictures. It just makes phone calls. And I have a child who works for T-Mobile -- I am a source of never-ending shame for her.
2) There may be something Kaffe Fassett has done in his life that wasn't spectacular, but I don't know what it would be. I can only imagine the glorious creations that are going to be flying out of that sewing machine of yours!
3) The hipstamatic app? AWESOME! Can't blame you for not being able to stop playing with it. As soon as your blog popped up I thought, "what is she doing to make those photos so gosh darn cool?" Direct quote.
4) When Spring comes you have to retreat indoors in Phoenix. I've long said that Phoenix and MSP are exactly the same place, only flip-flopped. So even though I feel nothing but jealous of your warmth, intellectually I feel your pain. But we'll all benefit from your burst of creative cocooning!

Well don't get me wrong, I do LOVE our PHX climate, but the afternoon sun/heat zaps my energy quickly. So that's good project time if I can just get my lazy self back into project gear.
As for Kaffe, his color sense is simply unmatched. Must confess I did take a class with him at a DC area fabric shop when his first quilt book came out, many years ago, and at that time he was not an impressive teacher/communicator. Likely he was new to the quilt class experience at the time, so I've remained a fan despite that little blip.
